ImageCraig Kingsbury, president of the Rotary Club of Nampa, has been appointed Chief of the Nampa Police Department.

Craig joined the Nampa Rotary Club in 2003 after he was promoted to lieutenant at the police dept.  He was elected to the club’s board of directors in 2008.  He recently successfully completed the Rotary Leadership Institute.

He plans to have his dad pin his Chief’s badge on him.  His dad retired as the Nez Perce County Sheriff in 2004 where he served 8 years as the county sheriff.  Prior to that he retired from the Lewiston Police Dept after 19 years there.  He worked 8 years before that at the Bellevue, WA PD.  His dad was also a member of the Lewiston Rotary Club.

The swearing in will be at the Nampa City Hall during the first council meeting of the year on Jan 7 at 6:30 PM.  After that Craig is going to host a "meet the chief" evening in the public meeting room at the Public Safety Building.  All Rotarians are invited!!!

Craig started his law enforcement career as a Police Explorer Scout with the Lewiston ID PD while attending high school.  In 1989 he became a reserve police officer with the Lewiston PD.  He was hired by the Nez Perce Co Sheriff's Office as a detention deputy in March of 1990 and worked there until he started his career with the Nampa PD on Dec 11, 1991.  Craig says he has been very lucky to have worked in several different areas of the police department.  He was the department's first DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer in 1994 and did that job for three years.  He really enjoyed working with the schools and teaching DARE to our youth.  Even today he has adults come up to him and tell him that he was their DARE officer; in fact one Officer who works at NPD was a DARE student of his when he was in the 6th grade.

Craig spent the majority of his career as a detective.  He worked many types of cases and enjoyed putting together the puzzle pieces of an investigation.  He was promoted to both cpl and sgt while in detectives.  He not only worked many different kinds of cases, but eventually supervised and led the entire section.

His wife's name is Loretta.  They have been married for 12 years. He has three children, Joey age 27, Brianna age 22 and Jerica age 17.
