What might happen if you combined a very talented professional musician and a generous and active advocate for their hometown in one person. At Boise Sunrise, that appears to have happened already in the form of Jay Multanen. Jay recently organized a house concert and fellow Boise Sunrise Rotarian Stewart Alford offered his beautiful house for this event.
About 25 of us attended the show featuring Jay on bass, Brent Jensen on alto sax, and Camden Hughes on piano. This trio of pros provided all of us with a lot of sweet “ear candy” as they sampled composers like Dave Brubeck. Paul Desmond, and Lee Konitz for over an hour.While we were enjoying the music, this event also raised a tidy sum north of $1800 for the Boise Hive. The Hive provides low cost recording studio space for rent to anyone in Boise; they also have many programs which advocate for the health and well being of numerous Boise musicians. Boise Sunrise is a proud supporter of their excellent and unique work in our community.
At Boise Sunrise, we try to live our slogan of leaving it better than we found it. Fundraising is always a challenging set of tasks to engage and manage. Serving up live music and dessert treats in a gorgeous Eagle home while simultaneously providing active and tangible support for the work of the Boise Hive makes for a compelling and delightful combination. The attendees at the Alfords’ home were able to enjoy all of this, courtesy of the creativity and big heart of Jay Multanen along with his generous network of musical friends. Bravo, Jay!Now that was a cool and jazzy fundraiser…
