Meet District Trainer Stephen (Steve) Gage
Steve has been a member of the Rotary Club of Boise Sunrise since 2013 and is currently serving as club president. Prior to moving to Boise in late 2012 he had been a member of three other Rotary clubs. He started with Rotary as a member of the Bakersfield (CA) South Club, the Mather-Perkins Club in the Sacramento (CA) and had also been a member of the Falls Church (VA) Club. Steve has served in various leadership positions in the clubs he belonged to. He was serving as club president in Falls Church when work required him to relocate back to California and not allowing him to finish the last quarter of his term. Steve has enjoyed attending Rotary activities including PETS/RLS, District Conferences and Rotary International conventions.
 
Steve spend 46 years in the fire service prior to his retirement in November 2015. He started his fire service career as a seasonal firefighter working for the Kern County (CA) Fire Department and the US Forest Service’s Fulton Hotshot crew. He was hired as a fulltime Firefighter by Kern County and work his way to the rank of Fire Chief. Steve left Kern County to serve on the staff of the CA Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, as the Deputy Chief of Operations, directing fire and rescue mutual aid throughout the state. He then took on a new position in Washington DC working for the US Forest Service. He spent the last 10 years of his profession, leading a team of people managing man-made and natural disasters as well as training others to do the same. Throughout his career Steve has been involved in training and education. He has a lifetime teaching credential and has taught classes in CA, across the country as well as abroad.
 
Steve has been married to his wife Kathy for 23 years. Between them they have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Their daughter, Kellie and her husband Kevin have 2 girls, Kayla and Karlee. They have 2 sons. Jeremy and his wife Bree have 3 boys, Cameron, Christopher and Cal. Jonathan and his wife Letty have a daughter Sophia and a son Nicholas. All of their kids and grandkids still live in California except for Karlee who is attending the University of Nevada Reno. Thus, Steve and Kathy put a lot of miles on their vehicles traveling back and forth.
