Stop the Bleed

What a wonderful day for a field trip. The club met at the Bannock conference room at Portneuf Medical Center this morning and what a great turnout for 7am.

The topic and training provided this morning was on how to stop the bleed. Dr. Drew McRoberts was the key speaker along with Greg Vickers and the subject was about how to stop an individual from bleeding out. The club learned about the ABC's for providing first aid to an individual by recognizing the severe life threatening emergencies and how to take steps to stop blood loss. Therefore, we learned what ABC stands for and what to do.

The presentation also included some hands on training in which we got the opportunity to place a tourniquet on each other's arms. Okay now before any of you gives us those suspicious looks, nobody was placed in harm's way or faced the threat of losing an arm. We all practice putting one on somebody and having one put on ourselves. Now, we will have to agree that when one is put on, you will definitely feel it purpose and life saving benefit of using a tourniquet to stop the blood flow to an wound. With all that being said, can you now guess what the ABC stands for? Okay here is a clue for A, Alert 911. Hints for B and C can be found in the pictures attached for this week. Still can't figure out B and C? Make plans to come to our next club meeting on Monday September 23, 7am at Elmer's Restraruant and find out.

Thanks to Drew, Greg, Mary, James, and Jill who also spent the morning with us and to Portneuf Medical Center @Portneuf Medical Center for hosting the club this morning and providing coffee and rolls.
