What Interests You?

When you consider the types of things that interest you and your community, there is likely a Rotary Fellowship for it! June is Rotary Fellowships month and there are over 100 Rotary Fellowships, from 4x4 to yoga, including fishing, writing, cycling, RV, quilting, scouting, and home exchange. Exploring Rotary Fellowships gives you a chance to enjoy your interests and hobbies with Rotarians locally and across the globe. As just one of many D5400 examples, Burley Johnson from the Rexburg club is a member of the Scouting Fellowship and is leading an effort to expand D5400 participation in the Scouting Fellowship.

Fellowships are an opportunity to enjoy and share your hobbies; and sometimes they may be service projects, too. Imagine teaching others to bowl, cook, or play pickleball, or hiking with friends is a trail clean-up event once a year. Fellowships are different than Rotary Action Groups and both will enhance your Rotary experience and deepen friendships across the globe. Here is where you can find the list of
Rotary Fellowships | Rotary International.

June is also what I call ‘close out’ month. We are all wrapping up the current Rotary year, checking our club and district goals, sending in those final dollars to meet the $100 per capita giving goal, and more. Having a member of your club in a Rotary Fellowship can be one of the chosen goals in Rotary Club Central towards achieving the Presidential Club Citation.

Imagine what’s possible as we move into the next Rotary year where we continue to create hope in the world around us. Anything is possible, and Rotarians make it happen every day! Thanks for being part of something big.

Peace,
Janice
District 5400 Raffle

Thank you for participating in the 2023 District 5400 raffle.  This year's raffle was record breaking in many ways due to your participation. The District raised over $95,000 in gross sales – the highest number in the history of the raffle to date. The prizes were also bigger this year than ever before. Here is the break-down of the winners and raffle numbers:

  • First Prize Winner:
    Dana Haskett
is the winner of the $10,000 AAA travel voucher. This ticket was sold by Greg Luhn from the Rotary Club of Nampa. Greg Luhn won $5,000 in AAA travel as the seller of the winning ticket and his club is the recipient of $5,000 to use in their community.
  • Second Prize Winner:
    Doug Rutan
from the Rotary Club of Meridian  won a week’s stay in a condo in Mexico and $1,000 in airfare.
  • Third Prize Winner:
    Bryan Craig
from the Rotary Club of Jerome won a $1,000 gift card to Best Buy
Also important to the raffle process is how the proceeds are distributed across the District. Here is a breakdown of the District Raffle expenses and where the funds are used to benefit clubs:
  1. District 5400 pays for the raffle prizes (listed above) and the costs related to raffle administration. This year that amount was approximately $25,000. The raffle administration includes printing the tickets, mailing them to clubs, the required State of Idaho raffle license, etc.
  2. Clubs who sell raffle tickets and have attendance at the annual District Conference are eligible to receive the club rebate. Club rebates have been distributed in the amount of $15,172.
  3. The balance of the funds raised will be split between two initiatives that benefit all clubs who participate:
    • District 5400 Rotary Foundation Match (program document attached)
    • Rotary District marketing campaign to raise the awareness of Rotary across the District, inviting community members to join clubs in service and making a difference locally. If you haven’t checked out www.helpinglocal.org – now is a great time to make sure your club content is up to date!
If you have any questions about the raffle, please reach out to me or your amazing Assistant Governor.  We look forward to continued raffle success next year, and into the future.

Insulate Ukraine
On Friday night during the 2023 District Celebration, we had a presentation from our partners, Insulate Ukraine, who are fabricating and installing windows in Ukraine. This is a great project
which allows Ukrainians to stay in their home and delivers a longer-term solution for many families, as well as local first responders. To date, our collective efforts have installed over 3,000 windows, impacting more than 500 homes and over 900 people impacted by the war.

Dear Polio
Dear Polio,
We have bad news for you. Very, very, very bad news. Today we stand extremely close to eliminating you. We still have more work to do, but we’ll get there. Someday, we’ll live in a world where you no longer exist. So prepare to exit stage left. Adios, Ciao. Au revoir. Sayonara. Toodles. Goodbye.

Sincerely, Rotary
