Announcing District 5400’s first Eco-Action Club

Boise Rotary became District 5400’s first Eco-Action Club. This means that at least five members from their club joined the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group.  Boise has ten members!

Why join a Rotary Action Group? Rotary has seven Areas of Focus, areas where we provide grants. They are environment, water & sanitation, disease prevention, maternal & child health, basic education, community & economic development and peace. They build on and support each other. For example,

  1. The environment provides water for
  2. Water Sanitation and Hygiene which is necessary for
  3. Disease Prevention which is necessary for
  4. Maternal and Child Health…
  5. And so on, each Area of Focus building on the others.

The Rotary Action Groups are independent, self-funded groups which provide that provide clubs and districts with information, expertise, and global networks for your projects and programs. If your club wants help doing a project that involves air, water, or land through conservation, resource management, agriculture, energy production, resilience and adaptation, environmental education, circular economy, public health, land use, or innovation, your club would turn to ESRAG.

What do Boise Rotary Club members get in return for my ESRAG membership fee? Well, joining ESRAG is different from joining a gym or country club. They’re not paying for access to facilities like a golf course or pool. Instead, it’s like supporting the Red Cross or other community service organizations, where the focus is on creating positive change for everyone, regardless of age, income, or background.

Mission
ESRAG’s mission is simple yet profound: to inspire and empower the Rotary Family with the expertise, networks, education, and best practices needed to implement sustainable, impactful environmental projects. As a members, they’ll have opportunities to grow, learn, and make a real difference.

Eco-Action Club Benefits
By joining ESRAG, Boise Rotary Club members can connect with experts and everyday Rotarians who are leading the way in environmental sustainability. They share their insights, success stories, and best practices through our monthly newsletterblog, social media, Weekly Project SeminarsPodcast:Climate Conversations, and active WhatsApp groups. Do you have a project or program to share? We’d love to hear from you!

A Sense of Community
Club members are the heart of ESRAG. Many participate in Task Forces and Regional Chapters. When I first joined the Task Forces, I immediately felt a sense of belonging—I’d found my tribe. Together, we encourage each other to “walk the talk.”

Why Do Eco-Action Club Members Join and Renew
ESRAG operates solely on the support of independent and club memberships like Boise Rotary. Based on a recent survey, here’s why people join and renew their memberships, ranked by importance:

  1. Empowerment: To contribute to causes I care about
  2. Community: To connect with people who share similar values and interests
  3. Mission: To support ESRAG’s goals and activities
  4. Information and Education: To access valuable resources and educational materials
  5. Representation: To advocate for my interests with larger governing bodies
  6. Direct Services: To receive specific services or benefits
  7. Direct Ask: Because a friend asked me to join

By joining or renewing your membership with any Rotary Action Group, you’re club members are not just signing up for an organization—they are choosing to do something meaningful for yourselves, others, and Rotary International. Together, we can make a lasting impact.
