District 5400 – Global Peacebuilder District

District 5400 has been recognized as a Global Peacebuilder District

Your support of peacebuilding and conflict prevention through club and district service projects are impactful and have an ongoing, positive impact. Global Peacebuilder Districts play an essential role in supporting the work of the Rotary Peace Centers as well as the club and district grassroots efforts in peacebuilding, both locally and globally. This support includes part of the funding that allows up to 130 peace fellows to study in fields related to peace and development at our Rotary Peace Centers located at leading universities around the world.  More than 1,800 alumni of the peace centers program are advancing peace in more than 140 countries, from leading local initiatives in communities to guiding policy development at the United Nations and other multilateral organizations.

D5400 Rotarians have engaged in supporting peace fellowship applications as well as participating in the evaluating of peace fellow candidates from all over the world.  As more peace fellows graduate each year, Rotary increases its impact in peacebuilding.  Global Peacebuilder Districts like ours are invaluable to Rotary’s peace and conflict prevention initiatives – a cornerstone of Rotary’s mission.  Peace is possible! If you’ve ever asked, ‘How can I impact peace?’  Consider that when Rotarians fight against poverty, we reduce conflict over resources.  When you support literacy and education, you support peace and the ability to find peaceful solutions. When clean water solutions are implemented, it creates health and peace. When you engage with people locally and globally in fellowship, friendship, and service – it is peacebuilding in a most joyful way.

These activities can address the root causes of conflict and build the capacity of communities here and abroad to create environments where peace can happen.
