Rotary Makes Its Mark on the USS Idaho

We’re proud to share that Rotary will be represented aboard the USS Idaho (SSN‑799), a Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarine set to be commissioned in 2026. Through a unique partnership between Rotary Districts 5400 and 5080, a custom plaque will be installed on the vessel, featuring the Rotary wheel, our motto “Service Above Self,” and listing every Rotary club in the state.

This lasting tribute highlights Idaho’s spirit of service and Rotary’s support for those who serve our nation. Special thanks to District 5080 Rotarians Sue Thilo and Joe Deacon for championing this effort, and to retired Navy Captain Richard Colburn, of Boise, for his inspiring outreach across the state.

This is a proud moment for Rotary in Idaho — a legacy of service traveling the world beneath the waves for many years to come.
