SAY YES TO THE BIG PICTURE OF ROTARY
When I was eight years old I wanted to fly in an airplane. More than anything in the world I wanted to see what it was like to fly. My wise mother bargained with me that if I would work hard all summer on a list of specific goals she would take me on an airplane ride. You never saw a more motivated child than I. All summer I worked very hard. I earned my flight.
On the appointed day Western Airlines took my mother and me all the way from Pocatello to Salt Lake City while my father drove his car down to pick us up. They could only afford 2 one way tickets. From up in the air I remember looking down at the BIG PICTURE below. I actually spotted my father’s car about 5 miles from the airport where he dropped us off. He seemed to be going very slow. I saw much more. I saw little farms, big mountains, small communities, puffy clouds, lonely roads, winding rivers, smooth lakes and solitary trees. The 25 minute flight was over in the blink of an eye but I will always remember those 25 minutes of my life.
Why? Because it was the first time I was ever able to see the BIG PICTURE! I gained perspective high up in the air that I could get in no other place. That experience inspired me so much that a decade later I got my pilot’s license so I could see even more.
Rotary has a BIG PICTURE too. We get the big picture whenever we step outside of our clubs and engage in the larger mission of Rotary. Opportunities abound for us to get the BIG PICTURE. You can attend a District Conference, a Zone Institute, or an International Convention. You can volunteer to work on a District committee. You can support a service project with another club in another District. You can attend other club meetings when you travel abroad. You can make up meetings at near by clubs. You can read your Rotarian Magazine or subscribe to any one of the 9 Rotary publications of Rotary International. You can attend zoom meetings of other clubs. You can become a Major Donor to the Foundation. You can go on a polio eradication mission or support a global grant project or join a Rotary Fellowship or a Rotary Action Group. You can expand your vision and gain a new perspective of the world.
Getting the BIG PICTURE of Rotary is like taking your first airplane ride. You will never see the world quite the same way again. This year as I have served as your District Governor, I have gained a new perspective too. I enjoyed visiting your clubs, seeing your projects, and watching all the good that goes on in the name of Rotary. I challenge you to set your goals. Come fly with me and just say “YES” to the BIG PICTURE of Rotary!

emmett youth benefit dinner & auction
has been rescheduled to Sept 19,2020
Due to the current health concerns for our community, and recommendations of the CDC, the 2020 Emmett Rotary Youth Benefit Dinner and Auction has been POSTPONED. It will now be held on September 19, 2020 at the Gem County Fairgrounds.
We are excited to announce that the flamingos will continue to flock our Sponsor businesses throughout the next few months as we continue to let others know YOU support our youth!
Meanwhile, youth groups will continue to sell Raffle tickets until right before the auction. This is a great opportunity for each to earn money for their group. The youth groups get 50 cents for each raffle ticket they sell. That profit is over and above what the group has requested from the actual auction funds.
Thank you for your support of this event that funds activities for the youth of Gem County. We still have room for Sponsors at $500 which includes dinner for six, free raffle tickets, free bucket draw tickets and entry into a drawing for $600. Individual tickets are available at $60 each by contacting Kathy at klrainbow49@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you on September 19.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact John Buck, 208-369-1785 or klrainbow49@gmail.com.
