Rotarians from District 5400 attended a unique district conference this year in Harmon Park in Twin Falls, Idaho. The venue was a great place to reconnect with old friends, mingle, and share best practices. It was a family-friendly day with perfect weather.

After lunch, teams were formed, and we all went off in different directions to do some Rotary good in the community. Our team got to participate in a Sleep in Heavenly Peace bunk bed delivery. SHP is a national organization that started in Kimberly, Idaho and has expanded into Boise as well. This team of Rotarians met at the SHP warehouse and picked up the components for two bunk beds. It turns out that both were headed to the same home, and within an hour, we had assembled them for the deserving family.
The SHP motto of “No kid is sleeping on the floor in my town” resonated with everyone that day. We witnessed the joy of a teenager who reportedly never had a bed of his own, climb onto the top bunk and roll around like a very happy cat! The other 3 kids were initially more reserved but emerged later while we were there to share their appreciation.
We left feeling exhilarated, having spent a small amount of time working together to accomplish a relatively simple assembly task that delivered significant and lasting impact for this family. This was a terrific example of leaving it better than we found it. We greatly admire the work of SHP and we really appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with them in serving families in the Magic Valley during the D5400 district conference!
