Let’s Stay on Track

I know it’s not Thanksgiving but I just don’t want to wait another month! I am so humbled by the Rotary clubs I’ve had the chance to visit these past two months. From Soda Springs in the lower east side of the state to Baker City, Oregon it has been an eye-opening experience and one I will never forget. All the clubs I have had a chance to visit (and there are many more to come) have been energetic, happy and most of all caring Rotarians. I learned about membership concerns and helped them walk through a couple things that might help.I had the chance to help serve buffalo burgers in Oregon where the highlight of my day was having a little girl come up to the stand and thank the Rotarians for the ping pong table they installed at the park. I sat with Rotarians concerned about their club inactivity and shared some ideas with them. Most of all, I felt their passion for Rotary – that’s something that comes from within and it is alive and well in our District!

My theme for this Rotary year is “Get on Board and Stay on Track” – our task as Rotarians is to make sure our clubs and our members are “on board” by sharing information about the free classes available in the Learning Center – they are for everyone – and supporting our current membership in such a way that recruiting members becomes easy – people want to join Rotary because they see what Rotary can do in their communities and then, in their lives.

“Staying on track” – let’s all work at becoming better Rotarians! Along with club officer positions that remain open year after year, do you know that finding District Committee chairmen and members is one of the most difficult tasks of the District Governor? I didn’t, not until I was sitting in this chair. There is no way that a sitting DG knows everyone in the district and their strengths without YOUR help! Each of you has talents that Rotary can and wants to enhance! Send me a note, let your AG know or give one of us a call if you have a burning desire to serve at the District level. It’s a great way to ‘stay on track’ with Rotary!

I look forward to working WITH each Rotarian in our District to make our “train” stay on track this year! Thank you for getting “on board” – now let’s continue our journey this year by “staying on track” adding more Rotarians and helping them get “on board” also by offering training opportunities.

Have a wonderful October!
