Recently, a trip to Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique by a team from Zoo Boise afforded the Rotary Club of Boise Sunrise an opportunity to deliver over 250 pairs of The Shoe That Grows made by Because International based in Nampa, Idaho. Because International has partnered with Boise Sunrise to serve a number of schools in central Mozambique with these shoes.
In the end, 212 girls and 50 boys representing 6 different schools received new shoes when this team of 12 delivered 5 large duffel bags as part of their trip to east Africa. There were ~53 pairs of shoes in each duffel, with each pair weighing ~1 pound. We thank these volunteers for delivering a large, heavy and bulky shipment of well-designed footwear!
These students are ideal recipients of this creative and effective shoe design that got its start with Nampa Rotarian Kenton Lee. As the kids grow, they have a pair of shoes that will grow with them. Partnering with Zoo Boise has been an excellent collaboration, and numerous young lives were changed with this project. Take a close look at these photos taken when the shoes arrived. Bravo to everyone involved in this outstanding project! Rotarians and our friends are truly People of Action.
Let’s go change the world…
