Each month, Boise Sunrise identifies a recipient of our Center of the Table (CoT) donations from club members. Recently Artisans for Hope (A4H) was chosen. The A4H executive director is Fran Caprai and she spoke to the club about how numerous women from all over the globe had been served by A4H. They receive training in sewing and knitting to develop marketable skills. When a piece is sold in the A4H craft store, the individual who made that piece receives 60% of the proceeds. The pictures below demonstrate some of the products they currently offer.
That recent CoT check was for $1000 and Sue Schiele told us that these funds would be used to purchase a new printer to reduce or eliminate the hassle and cost of going to outside printing sources. Here is how Sue and Fran described this need:
As we have grown, we have needed to outsource some of our printing projects which can be expensive. It may not be a glamorous purchase, but it will definitely make things run more smoothly for all the artisans, staff, and volunteers. Having a new color laser printer will save us money on the cost of ink and it will allow us to quickly print small batches of flyers “just in time” for our events. When we have to send those items out to be printed, we end up paying for larger batches than we need and we have to plan for the added wait time for printing and shipping. We will save both time and money by handling those small jobs internally and printing only the materials we need, when we need them. We will also reduce the frustration of volunteer office staff and teachers by reducing their wait time for simple prints or copies of instructions or documents.
Artisans for Hope is a terrific non-profit and Boise Sunrise is proud to support the work that they do in welcoming and training numerous refugee women in a new and marketable skill in their new hometown here in SW Idaho. Sue shared this feedback on their products and their facility:
Our boutique shop has items for everyone. Barbecue aprons and log carriers for the men. Afghans, caps, sweaters and blankets for the young children and grandchildren. There is a large variety of purses and bags for women and teenagers. We also do alterations and custom projects. Our Grand Opening is April 12th and 13th.
Their office is located at 1615 W State St. in Boise across from the original Albertsons store. Maybe some shopping might be in order for you and your family in the coming months? We look forward to continuing to support A4H and to collaborating with them to leave it better than we found it. Bravo! to Artisans for Hope for embodying a shining example of Service Above Self.
